Women's Groups
Bethany Circle
The Bethany Circle meets on the last Wednesday of each month from
Sept to May at 1:00 pm for Bible study and a business meeting.
We welcome with open hearts anyone interested in joining us at any
time. We pray that God will lead us in our endeavors to serve
him.
Along with the Service & Witness committee, the women's groups have visited
nursing homes and shut-ins. Cards are sent regularly to bereaved
members and also to those ill or hospitalized. A rose bud is
placed on the Alter to honor the birth of all new babies in our
congregation.
We have four weekday serving groups and two weekend
groups. These groups serve at funerals, etc. If you can help serve
or provide food for these events, please contact the church, your
help is greatly needed. Monies donated by
the families at funerals is donated to the Church general fund.
QUILTERS
The quilters meet in the
church each Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief.
All are invited to join the fun! Meets Sept to last of April. In
2008-09 they made 186 quilts!
Men's Groups
MELCA
All men of the church
are members of MELCA and are welcome to attend our meetings held at the church the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. with a meal prepared
by the members. It's an informal get-together, someone brings a pot
of soup and we discuss everything from what we can do for the church
to who is catching the biggest fish! A free-will offering is collected after the meal
and the proceeds are deposited in the checking account. Various
repair maintenance projects are taken care of after the meal.
The group hosts an annual Roast Beef Dinner for the church and
community to raise funds for such things as snow removal and church
property improvements and repairs.
Youth Ministries
All local children are
encouraged to participate in our church youth activities. Our programs are person-oriented
and family-conscious with an emphasis being placed on witness
and service as well as nurture and community.
In addition to the many
activities shared within our congregation, our youth are also
exposed to opportunities outside our church home. These programs
are designed to provide our youth with additional activities
to further strengthen understanding of themselves, other people,
and God.
Parish
Nursing
Our church participates in the
local Parish Nursing service. Parish nursing is a unique,
specialized practice of professional nursing which focuses on
the promotion of health within the context of the values, beliefs,
and practices of a faith community (such as a church), its mission
and ministry to its members (families and individuals) and the
community it serves. Health is viewed as not only the absence
of disease, but a sense of physical, social, psychological and
spiritual well-being and of being in harmony with self, others,
the environment, and with God. Healing is the process of integrating
the body, mind and spirit to create wholeness, health, and a
sense of well-being, even when curing may not occur.
Professional nursing is
rooted in these concepts of health and healing. Parish nursing
promotes health and healing within faith communities. With the
recognition that most illnesses and premature deaths are a result
of lifestyle choices, such as diet, exercise, substance abuse,
violence, and risk taking behaviors, parish nursing integrates
current medical and behavioral knowledge with the beliefs and
practices of a faith community to promote health as wholeness
to prevent or minimize illness. -- From the Scope and Standards of parish
